Trailer for Joshua Oppenheimer's 'The Look of Silence', Followup to 'The Act of Killing'

With The Act of Killing, Joshua Oppenheimer established himself as a filmmaker willing to go to some dangerous lengths to get to the root of his subject. He stood face-to-face with the men responsible for the Indonesian genocide of the 1960s, and he dared to make them confront their pasts. Awards and acclaim followed, and Oppenheimer began work on a follow-up, The Look of Silence, which treads similar ground but from a different perspective.

A new trailer has debuted for the film which made its award-winning premiere in Venice earlier this year. This one centers on Adi, whose family was devastated during that same military coup fifty years ago, and his attempts to confront the men responsible for it.  The Act of Killing was my top doc of 2013, and The Look of Silence is already looking like a contender for best of 2014. Right now it's set to open next year but with so many accolades I'd be shocked if it didn't get a brief run soon just to qualify for the Oscars.
