The American Film Market is underway, which is why so many projects seem to be coming together all at once. Last week IFC Films scored what may have been a major coup when they picked up the rights to Hungry Hearts, a Polanski-esque thriller that cleaned up big time at the Venice Film Festival. Stars Adam Driver and Alba Rohrwacher took home acting awards, with Italian director Saverio Costanzo earning the prestigious Leoncino d'oro Award. Those are some heavy credentials to be carrying around, and now we're finally getting a look at what all the fuss was about.
Driver and Rohrbacher play a young Manhattan couple fighting over the well-being of their newborn child, with her having some pretty weird ideas about how to take care of him. And based on this new trailer the mounting tension between them is going to lead to some disturbing actions. This looks like the kind of film that would make for a good twinbill with The Babadook, another horror about the craziness of parenting.
