First Trailer for CW's 'iZombie' goes for Humor and Brains

Not having read the iZombie comic CW's upcoming series has been low on my interest scale, but some I respect are genuinely excited about what the show has in store. Over the weekend  during the Television Critics Association event iZombie picked up a lot of buzz and emerged as a potential sleeper hit for the CW. Now a trailer for it has arrived and the reasons for the positive early reviews are starting to become clearer.

Rose McIver stars as Olivia "Liv" Moore, a former medical resident who gets turned into one of the undead. Rather than feasting on living brains and exposing her zombie nature, Liv has found a way around it by taking a job as a coroner, feasting on the brains of the corpses which grant her visions of their memories. Meanwhile she's still trying to blend in with her friend and family. Obviously the first thing that will catch people's attention is how much it resembles Veronica Mars, which makes sense considering Rob Thomas created it. But it's also got a little of Dead Like Me in there, and those are two shows that will forever be dear to my heart. So if iZombie can hook me the way those series did then it will have a fan in me. Not all of the humor works here and some of it comes off as hokey, but I have faith in the showrunners to get it right.

iZombie debuts on the CW on March 17th at 9pm.
