Denis Villeneuve to Direct Harrison Ford in 'Blade Runner' Sequel

Part of Ridley Scott's return to his old sci-fi stomping grounds with Prometheus, he also began developing a sequel/spinoff/whatever to Blade Runner. Harrison Ford seemed interested in returning as Deckard, but it started to become apparent that Scott wouldn't be directing the film himself. And it turns out he won't, but the guy to take on the job is pretty darn amazing. Denis Villeneuve, director of Prisoners and Enemy, will take the helm in what is officially a Blade Runner sequel.

On top of what is already huge news comes confirmation that Ford is definitely back as Rick Deckard for a story that takes place decades after the 1982 original. Also back in the fold is Blade Runner screenwriter Hampton Fancher, co-writing the new film alongside Michael Green.

Villeneuve has really come into his own over the last couple of years with the dark, brooding flicks Prisoners and Enemy, both of which featured Jake Gyllenhaal. Maybe a reunion is in order?
