Convenient timing? Last night the Edward Snowden documentary Citizenfour won Best Documentary at the Oscars. Striking while the iron is at its hottest, Oliver Stone's upcoming political thriller on Snowden has just announced its latest cast member, and it's none other than Nicolas Cage.
Cage has joined the Snowden cast playing a former U.S. intelligence officer. The cast is already great with Joseph Gordon-Levitt as the infamous NSA leaker, Shailene Woodley as his girlfriend, and Zachary Quinto, Tom Wilkinson, Melissa Leo, Timothy Olyphant, and Rhys Ifans. With talent like that the film is clearly a potential Oscar contender, which is why it will be released on Christmas Day.
Stone has begun principal photography on Snowden and it will continue through mid-May. [Variety]
