Mary Elizabeth Winstead Starts Over in Trailer for 'Alex of Venice'

It's never too late to take on life with a fresh slate. Many a film have been based around this simple premise of starting anew, and one that received some solid buzz at Tribeca last year was Alex of Venice. Marking the directorial debut of actor Chris Messina, the film stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead as a career-minded mother who must reevaluate her life priorities when her husband (Messina) decides he's had enough.

"From the producers of The Place Beyond the Pines and Half Nelson" is a pretty good place to start, in my opinion. It speaks to a certain humanity that I think is present in this trailer, and by most accounts the performances by Winstead and Don Johnson as her pot-smoking father are terrific. It's also good to see Derek Luke in a supporting role as Winstead's love interest, and that the interracial make up of their relationship doesn't seem to be an issue.

Alex of Venice hits VOD and theaters on April 17th.
