Over the last few weeks we had seen the Best Actor race tighten between Birdman's Michael Keaton and Eddie Redmayne for The Theory of Everything, and it was the latter who won for his performance as Stephen Hawking. The rest of the acting categories went as expected with JK Simmons earning Best Supporting Actor for Whiplash, and Julianne Moore's Best Actress win for Still Alice. It also turned out to be a big night for Wes Anderson as The Grand Budapest Hotel tied Birdman with four awards, the biggest being Best Original Score. Disney showed their animation dominance in a year that didn't have a film by Pixar. They won Best Animated Short for Feast, and Big Hero 6 overtook How to Train Your Dragon 2 for Best Animated Feature.
