Red Sonja gets Revived with a New Screenwriter

Hard to believe it has been seven Comic-Cons since Robert Rodriguez announced his Red Sonja project starring his ex-girlfriend, Rose McGowan. This was during the Grindhouse craze and the reaction was pretty enthusiastic amongst the geek crowd. But the film never got off the ground and McGowan and Rodriguez split up from one another and the project. While attempts to get it going with Simon West, Amber Heard, and even Megan Fox were floated, nothing has happened since...until now.

Red Sonja is now back on the docket over at Nu Image/Millennium Films, and a screenwriter has been found in newcomer Christopher Cosmos. Red Sonja is largely known for her close association with Robert E. Howard's Conan the Barbarian series, but the character was actually created by Roy Thomas for Marvel Comics as a riff on Howard's Red Sonya character. Her first official appearance was in Marvel's Conan the Barbarian comic.

Brigitte Nielsen played her in the Red Sonja film in 1985 which co-starred Arnold Schwarzenegger as Conan. No director or stars are attached to this new version just yet. [THR]
