There were a lot of great performances by up and coming stars at last month's Sundance Film Festival, and one that received the most attention was Bel Powley in Diary of a Teenage Girl. Powley's bold debut (my review here) instantly pegged her as the "It" girl of the festival, with hopefully a long and fruitful career to follow. The next step in that career is a role in the light-hearted Royal Family comedy, A Royal Night Out, and here's the first trailer.
Directed by Julian Jarrold (Brideshead Revisited, Kinky Boots), the film stars Powley and Sarah Gadon as Princess Margaret and Queen Elizabeth as teenagers out for a wild night on the town. Their brief night of freedom from Buckingham Palace is a night of passion, fun, and misadventure as London celebrates the end of World War II. Emily Watson, Jack Reynor, and Rupert Everett round out the impressive Brit ensemble.
In the works for some time, Jarrold had once assembled a cast led by Dakota Fanning, Juno Temple, and Olivia Williams, but this current incarnation could prove to be even better. A Royal Night Out hits the UK on May 15th with a US date hopefully to follow.
