Idris Elba takes Villain Role in 'Star Trek 3'

Here's a nice counterpoint to Idris Elba's recent signing on to Harmony Korine's latest indie flick, The Trap. Elba, who can be seen for about five minutes in The Gunman right now, is in talks to take the villain role in Star Trek 3. So he'll get more screen time and obviously more cash for being part of a gigantic studio franchise.

Variety has the news of Elba's negotiations, and of course solid details on the plot are being kept a mystery. Justin Lin may be taking over for JJ Abrams as director but he's still producing and secrets will be held until the last possible moment. One thing to consider is that we have yet to see the Klingons be a force in either movie and now seems like a good time for that to change.

Chris Pine, Zoe Saldana, co-writer/co-star Simon Pegg, Zachary Quinto, Anton Yelchin, and Karl Urban will all return for Star Trek 3 on July 8th 2016.
