Evil Dead and Suburgatory star Jane Levy is set to headline Bushwick, an action film from Cary Murnion and Jonathan Milott, the directors behind horror-comedy, Cooties. Penned by Nick Damici (Cold in July) and Graham Reznik, the story follows 21-year-old Lucy as she tries to cross the treacherous five blocks of Bushwick as her neighborhood is under attack from militias and looters, all to get back home to her grandmother.
What, was Morgan Freeman not available? Octavia Spencer will play God in The Shack, based on William Paul Young's faith-based novel. Directed by Stuart Hazeldine with a script by John Fusco, the drama follows a man who suffers a terrible tragedy and receives a note from God, that sends him to a shack where the tragedy occurred. Forrest Whitaker had been set to star and direct the film but he apparently dropped out at some point.
And fresh off the sleeper success of last summer's Let's Be Cops, Damon Wayans Jr. is joining ex-Drew Barrymore project, How to Be Single. The ensemble comedy stars Dakota Johnson, Rebel Wilson, Lesley Mann, Alison Brie, Lily Collins, and Dan Stevens, centering on the dating lives of five single New York women, one of whom is writing a book on bachelorettes. Christian Ditter (Love, Rosie) is directing based on an adaptation of Liz Tuccillo's 2008 novel.
