Jonathan Liebesman to Direct Gritty Camelot Film 'Man at Arms'

Although he won't be coming back to direct Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2, Jonathan Liebesman has found another project to keep him plenty occupied. He's set to direct Man at Arms, a film that's basically a Western-style take on King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table.

Deadline reports that the film, which features a script by Jeremy Lott, is an epilogue set long after the fall of Camelot. It follows "an older Sir Lancelot who, feeling remorse about his affair with Queen Guinevere, becomes determined to set things straight." The comparison being made is to Clint Eastwood's Unforgiven, so this could be a really interesting take on familiar material, especially with Guy Ritchie's Knights of the Round Table developing at Warner Bros.

Liebesman is known for blockbuster projects, having directed Wrath of the Titans and Battle: Los Angeles. His Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was also massive spectacle on par with Michael Bay's Transformers movies, so we have a pretty good idea of the scale Liebesman will bring to the project. Man at Arms has been in the works for a few years, and Lott is also working on Hood, which is a gritty twist on Robin Hood. Well, at least he's consistent.
