Bel Powley Joins 'A Storm in the Stars'; Alex Roe Joins 'Rings'; Frank Langella Leads 'Youth in Oregon'
Sundance breakout Bel Powley (Diary of a Teenage Girl)has landed another major role, joining Elle Fanning in Frankenstein film A Storm in the Stars. Directed by Haifa Al-Mansour (Wadjda), the film details the tumultuous relationship between poet Percy Shelley and his 18-year-old lover, Mary Godwin, who would become famous as Frankenstein author Mary Shelley. Powley will play Mary's stepsister Claire Claremont, a famously troubled woman in her own right who further complicated Mary and Percy's relationship. Rumors are that Claire was also sexually involved with Percy. Powley will be seen next in A Royal Night Out opposite Sarah Gadon.
That sequel/prequel of The Ring has just found its male lead to star opposite the previously-announced Matilda Lutz. Alex Roe will star in Rings, Javier Gutierrez's film that is said to take place before the original trilogy introduced the deadly video tape. But that contradicts Roe's role as the boyfriend to Lutz's character who grows distant after watching the tape. Roe is moving up the ranks quick having scored a major role in The 5th Wave with Chloe Moretz. [Deadline]
Frank Langella has come aboard to star in the euthanasia comedy (???) Youth in Oregon, joining writer, director, and star Joel David Moore (Avatar, Bones). The film is based on a true story and centers on a cantankerous 80-year-old man who goes on a cross country road trip with his son-in-law to Oregon in hopes of being euthanized in a state where it's legal. Fun stuff! [Deadline]
