'Let the Right One In' TV Series Coming to A&E

Touted by many as the best vampire film in years, 2008's Let the Right One In doesn't seem like the most obvious choice to become a TV series. Tomas Alfredson's Swedish film was remade a few years later with Let Me In, which turned out to be nearly as good as the original. So why mess with it? Because A&E know there's big ratings to be found in a dark, moody series about vampires and teen romance.

THR reports A&E has picked up the story rights to Let the Right One In, itself an adaptation of John Ajvide Lindqvist's novel about a bullied young boy who becomes friends with a female vampire. She lives with her mysterious human guardian who commits murders to feed her urges.

Developing the series will be Teen Wolf showrunner Jeff Davis, along with actor-writer Brandon Boyce (Wicker Park) who had a recurring role on Teen Wolf. A&E entered into a fierce bidding war with Showtime to secure the rights.

A&E has done some good work on Bates Motel, which has grown far beyond just being a Psycho prequel series. Perhaps they can strike gold again with Let the Right One In, but at this early stage it sounds like a questionable idea. Only time will tell.
