The words "Adam Sandler comedy" don't mean much anymore, but surround him with a great cast and an entire arcade's worth of digital effects and you may have the makings of a summer blockbuster. The first trailer for the video game comedy Pixels has been released and may be worth plunking down a few quarters for.
Directed by Chris Columbus and co-starring Kevin James, Peter Dinklage, Michelle Monaghan, and Josh Gad (is he everywhere lately or what?), the film has Sandler as a former video game champion called upon by the President to defend the world from invading aliens that have taken the form of '80s video game characters. The vintage pixelated graphics look great against the modern backdrop, and this looks like it could be a lot of fun.
Pixels hits theaters on July 24th.
