The modern military drama has completely evolved over the years just as the state of warfare has changed. Need an example? Awesome 1980s helicopter flick Blue Thunder is getting a remake that's about a drone rather than a chopper. That's just the way things are going to be from now on, and another example arrives in a couple of months with Andrew Niccol's Good Kill.
Starring the awfully-busy Ethan Hawke, the story follows a former fighter pilot who now works from a desk carrying out his missions using drones. The ease of issuing kill orders with the push of a button begins to take a heavy emotional toll, a common theme explored in numerous films on this subject lately. So what makes Good Kill stand out from the rest? Judging by the lack of buzz from the festival circuit there may not be anything, unfortunately.
