Maybe after all the brutality Lars von Trier has put her through over the years, Charlotte Gainsbourg has decided to try something simpler. The Nymphomaniac and Antichrist actress is going the blockbuster route for the first time by joining the cast of Independence Day 2.
Roland Emmerich has amassed a cast that includes Jeff Goldblum, Liam Hemsworth, and Jesse Usher as the son of Will Smith's character from the first film. So what about Smith himself? He turned down a role even before he landed the Suicide Squad gig so this was never going to be in the cards for him. As for Gainsbourg's role? Who knows? But be honest, this would be a more interesting film if they'd let von Trier get his hands on it. I shudder to think what he would put her through with extraterrestrials in the mix!
