Sarah Polley and Amy Pascal Team Up for 'Little Women'

Embattled former Sony exec Amy Pascal hasn't wasted any time in re-establishing her producing power, and her focus has been mostly on major female-led projects. She's a producer on Paul Feig's female Ghostbusters film, Chloe Moretz's YA adaptation The 5th Wave, and Marvel's Spider-Man which may lead to female spinoffs. Now she's teaming up with Sarah Polley to bring Louisa May Alcott's Little Women to the big screen once more.

The Wrap reports that Pascal will join with Sony to co-produce an adaptation of Little Women, Alcott's cherished 19th century novel about sisters Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy March as they pass into womanhood. Polley will write the screenplay and could direct, as well. If she does it will be something rarely seen in Hollyood; a film written, directed, and produced entirely by women. Girl power! Polley's most recent film was the acclaimed documentary, Stories We Tell. Her screenplay for Away from Her earned an Oscar nomination.

Little Women has been adapted so many times that it's difficult to get excited over this one. However, Pascal and Polley should be able to attract some big names. Maybe they can bring back Winona Ryder, star of the 1994 version, to play the mom?
