Another Bizarre Trailer for Takashi Miike's 'Yakuza Apocalypse'
Prolific director Takashi Miike and the frequently...uh, "hard to please" Cannes audience? Sounds like a mix destined for a round of boos, especially with Miike's latest being the bizarre but awesomely-titled Yakuza Apocalypse: The Great War of the Underworld. We've seen trailers for the film before and to be honest they don't make a lick of sense, and neither does the latest before it screens as part of the Cannes Directors' Fortnight.
Starring The Raid's Yayan Ruhian and apparently some guy in a big stuffed frog suit (???), the film centers on Akira, who manages to work his way into the Yakuza like he always wanted. Being a gangster isn't what he always imagined it to be, though, especially when the big boss turns out to be a blood-sucking vampire. Uh, do your best to get any of that from this footage which is too off the wall to be figured out. Honestly, I'd be a little afraid if I could.
Still no U.S. date for this one and given Miike's spotty track record here it may never happen. Fingers crossed.
