Right now you can see Swedish actress Alicia Vikander in Alex Garland's brilliant Ex Machina, playing a sexy, futuristic robotic femme fatale. But she's just as good in period dramas (see Anna Karenina), and this summer we'll get to see her as WWI pacifist hero Vera Brittain in Testament of Youth.
A new trailer for the wartorn drama has been released, based on Brittain's memoir which showed the war from a woman's perspective. Kit Harington plays her fiance Roland Leighton, who along with her brother (Taron Egerton) and two friends are sent to fight on the frontlines. Their sacrifice inspires Brittain to abandon her studies at Oxford and become a war nurse.
Directed by James Kent and co-starring Hayley Atwell, Dominic West, and Emily Watson, Testament of Youth opens June 5th.
