'Independence Day 2' Adds 'It Follows' Star Maika Monroe
Only a few months into 2015 and already we know one of the year's breakout stars, and it's It Follows' Maika Monroe. The 21-year-old actress made her first real splash in Ramin Bahrani's drama, At Any Price, and had a role in Jason Reitman's Labor Day, but now she's signed on for her first blockbuster in Roland Emerich's Independence Day sequel.
Monroe has taken an unspecified role in Independence Day 2, which opens June 24th 2016, twenty years after he original. She joins Jessie Usher, Liam Hemsworth, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Travis Tope, Joey King, and returnees Vivica A. Fox, Brent Spiner, Judd Hirsch, Bill Pullman, and Jeff Goldblum. While plot details remain under wraps, the film is no longer being split into two parts as Emmerich had originally planned. Carter Blanchard wrote the most recent version of the screenplay.
The next chance to check out Monroe will be next January in the YA adaptation The 5th Wave starring Chloe Grace Moretz.
