Could we be talking about a Best Actor run for Johnny Depp in Black Mass? That's the opinion of some who have seen footage from the film at CinemaCon. Our first glimpse of the Scott Cooper-directed crime drama came last night, but now we get to see what all the buzz is about in the newly released trailer, and Depp does seem to be working on a different level.
Showing a rage and intensity we haven't seen from him in forever, Depp plays infamous Boston mobster Whitey Bulger, who doubled as an informant for the FBI. It's a return to the mob genre for Depp after 2009's Public Enemies. The cast here is incredibly strong with Dakota Johnson, Benedict Cumberbatch, Joel Edgerton, Kevin Bacon, Juno Temple, Corey Stoll, and more.
Black Mass hits theaters on September 18th.
