Johnny Depp is Whitey Bulger in First Look at 'Black Mass'

Only yesterday we had a chance to see Johnny Depp back again as Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, which will probably make $1B at the box office. Now we're being treated to a first look at Depp in Black Mass, which doesn't involve him playing a cartoon character so it probably won't make anything.

Looking meaner and tougher than he ever has, Depp plays the infamous Boston gangster who was a fugitive from justice for 16 years until he was captured in 2011. The guy was not only violent but totally brazen and basically hid from the FBI in plain sight. He even went to the movies to check out Jack Nicholson's performance in The Departed which was largely based on Bulger's persona. 

Directed by Scott Cooper with Kevin Bacon, Benedict Cumberbatch, Joel Edgerton, Sienna Miller, and Dakota Johnson co-starring, Black Mass opens September 18th.  [EW]
