New Posters for 'Magic Mike XXL', 'Poltergeist', 'Cop Car', and More

Big rundown of new posters this morning so let's get right to it.

First up are two new posters for Magic Mike XXL featuring ex-wrestler Kevin Nash as Tarzan and Joe Manganiello as "Big Dick" Richie. The film is directed by Greg Jacobs and reunites the gang from the first film (minus Matthew McConaughey and Alex Pettyfer) with newcomers Donald Glover, Jada Pinkett Smith, Amber Heard, Michael Strahan, Elizabeth Banks, and more. Magic Mike XXL strips down on July 1st. SYNOPSIS: Picking up the story three years after Mike bowed out of the stripper life at the top of his game, “Magic Mike XXL” finds the remaining Kings of Tampa likewise ready to throw in the towel. But they want to do it their way: burning down the house in one last blow-out performance in Myrtle Beach, and with legendary headliner Magic Mike sharing the spotlight with them. On the road to their final show, with whistle stops in Jacksonville and Savannah to renew old acquaintances and make new friends, Mike and the guys learn some new moves and shake off the past in surprising ways.

A classic scene is reimagined on the new poster for the Poltergeist remake. Sam Rockwell, Rosemarie DeWitt, Jared Harris, Saxon Sharbino, and Kennedi Clements star in the horror produced by Sam Raimi and directed by Gil Kenan. Poltergeist opens May 22nd. SYNOPSIS: Legendary filmmaker Sam Raimi (“Spiderman,” “Evil Dead”, “The Grudge”) and director Gil Kenan (“Monster House”) contemporize the classic tale about a family whose suburban home is haunted by evil forces. When the terrifying apparitions escalate their attacks and hold the youngest daughter captive, the family must come together to rescue her before she disappears forever.

Here's a poster for Viggo Mortensen's first French-language film, Far from Men, which recently played at the Tribeca Film Festival. I saw it just yesterday so expect a review very soon. Directed by David Oelhoffen and co-starring Reda Kateb (A Prophet), the film takes place during Algeria's war for independence from France. Mortensen plays a schoolteacher in a small village who must cross dangerous territory to accompany a Muslim dissident to the authorities. Far from Men opens May 1st.

One of the wildest experiences I had at Sundance earlier this year was Jon Watts' thriller, Cop Car. Not necessarily the best, but while it worked (admittedly brief) the film was quite the ride. Kevin Bacon stars as a dirty cop who gets up to his neck in trouble when two rambunctious kids steal his cop car and the incriminating evidence inside it. Oops. Expect a review closer to release this summer.

The beautiful Gemma Arteron is featured on the poster for Anne Fontaine's Gemma Bovery. Based on Posy Simmonds' acclaimed graphic novel, this update on Flaubert's Madame Bovary centers on the titular Norman woman who escapes from her bored married life by engaging in a number of affairs. Gemma Bovery opens May 29th.

Finally! My boy Franklin gets his own poster for The Peanuts Movie! Not to mention Violet, who is basically the meaner version of Lucy. The Peanuts Movie is produced by Paul Feig and opens November 6th. SYNOPSIS: Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Lucy, Linus and the rest of the beloved “Peanuts” gang make their big-screen debut, like they’ve never been seen before, in state of the art 3D animation. Snoopy, the world’s most lovable beagle and flying ace embarks upon his greatest mission as he takes to the skies to pursue his arch-nemesis The Red Baron, while his best pal, Charlie Brown, begins his own epic quest.  From the imagination of Charles M. Schulz and the creators of the ICE AGE films, THE PEANUTS MOVIE will prove that every underdog has his day.

The buzz is slowly building for Bill Pohlad's biopic Love & Mercy, which stars John Cusack and Paul Dano as troubled Beach Boys member Brian Wilson. Paul Giamatti, Elizabeth Banks, and Jake Abel co-star in the film which spans Wilson's career and his battle with mental illness. Love and Mercy opens on June 5th.
