Xavier Dolan's last film, Mommy, found its way into my Top 5 movies of 2014, so I was especially disappointed at the lack of attention it received in the Oscars race. While it was expected that his next film would be The Death and Life of John F. Donovan starring Jessica Chastain, that's not going to be the case. Instead, Dolan has gathered an A-list ensemble for Just La Fin Du Monde (It's Only the End of the World), with filming to begin soon.
Marion Cotillard, Vincent Cassel, Lea Seydoux, Gaspard Ulliel, and Nathalie Baye will star in the film which is based on Jean-Luc Lagarce's play about a writer who returns home to announce his upcoming death to his family. Resentment causes the reunion to go in a different direction than planned.
Filming begins at the end of May, and Dolan sounds pretty excited to work with the starriest cast he's yet had.
“I’m absolutely thrilled about ‘It’s Only the End of the World,’ especially for the work with the actors. It is my utmost priority and most visceral passion to work with inspiring talent on set and not only direct them, but, as an actor-director, act with and through them, even from the other side of the mirror.” [Variety]
