Anna Foerster to Direct Kate Beckinsale in Fifth 'Underworld' Film

Last fall we learned the Underworld franchise wouldn't be going away any time soon, even if it was going in a slightly different direction. While it would still center on a war between vampires and Lycans (werewolves), the initial plan for the fifth (!!!) film was to bring back Divergent's Theo James, reprising his David character from Underworld: Awakening.  Len Wiseman, who created the franchise, told us to expect his wife Kate Beckinsale to return as the death-dealing vampire, Selene, and now she's been confirmed along with the film's new director.

According to THR, cinematographer and frequent Roland Emmerich collaborator Anna Foerster will direct, based on a script by Cory Goodman. Foerster recently became attached to direct a sequel to Duncan Jones' Source Code. She's also been at the helm for episodes of Criminal Minds and Outlander.

Last we heard the film's plot would center on David and a new generation of vampires, so it remains to be seen how large of a role Beckinsale will have. Filming will begin this October.
