'Avengers: Infinity War' will be Filmed Entirely in IMAX; Writers Officially Announced

Let's assume for a moment that the two-part Avengers: Infinity War is the end of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as we know it. If that's the case, Marvel has a way go out in style, and far bigger than ever before. Marvel has revealed that both movies, which will be shot back-to-back, will be filmed entirely using the brand new IMAX/ARRI 2D cameras. Holy crap.

We learned last year that Captain America: Civil War would incorporate some IMAX scenes, so directors Joe and Anthony Russo will be more experienced with the technology. Here's what they had to say about the news...

"The intent with the Infinity War films is to bring ten years of accumulative storytelling to an incredible climax. We felt that the best way to exploit the scale and scope required to close out the final chapter of these three phases, was to be the first films shot entirely on the IMAX/ARRI Digital camera."

Also expect to see a digitally remastered IMAX 3D version, although to be honest none of the Marvel movies have made the best use of 3D. Maybe now that will change.

This is turning out to be a busy Marvel day as they've also announced that Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely will write the screenplay. Markus and McFeely are Marvel's most reliable duo, penning the screenplays for Thor: The Dark World, and all three Captain America movies.

Avengers: Infinity War part 1 arrives on May 4th 2018, followed by part 2 on May 3rd 2019.
