Brad Pitt's 'World War Z' Sequel Set for Summer 2017
Brad Pitt's World War Z was one of 2013's biggest surprises, earning more than $500M worldwide. All this after highly-publicized production problems that included some serious rewrites on the script and issues with director Marc Forster. With Forster gone and J.A. Bayona (The Impossible) having replaced him, Paramount Pictures has set a June 9th 2017 release date. That sets up a potentially explosive showdown as 20th Century Fox have tagged that date for a Fantastic Four sequel, assuming the first film does well enough to earn one.
Steven Knight (Eastern Promises) is writing the World War Z 2 screenplay, but details on the plot are scarce. The first film ended with U.N. officer Gerry Lane (Pitt) making a discovery that could turn the tide of the zombie war, but Knight previously said he's "starting with a clean slate", so who knows where the story will go.
