Dwayne Johnson to Lead Dreamworks' Sci-Fi Comedy 'Alpha Squad Seven'

The media takeover by Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson continues. The guy who revived the Fast & Furious and G.I. Joe franchises is already set to invade the world of superhero movies with Warner Bros.' Shazam, and he has the HBO series Ballers coming up. With his disaster flick San Andreas shaking up theaters later this month, Johnson has now set to star in Dreamworks' sci-fi comedy, Alpha Squad Seven.

Not much is known about the plot except that  Jeremiah Friedman and Nick Palmer's pitch is being described as a four-quadrant action comedy set in space, that will apparently be a two-hander rather than an ensemble. So maybe an outer space buddy comedy? And of course, if all works out Dreamworks sees it as the potential start of a franchise, but first they need to find a director.

Maybe  this will see Johnson reteam with Kevin Hart? The two are currently filming the CIA comedy Central Intelligence. Johnson will also voice the lead character in Disney's animated musical, Moana. [THR]
