First Poster and Synopsis for Denis Villeneuve's 'Sicario' Starring Emily Blunt
There may be not be another Cannes film more anticipated than Denis Villeneuve's Sicario, which will be in-competition at the festival. This is one of those films that has greater potential as a mainstream hit than is usually seen there, but with Villeneuve at the helm and a cast led by Emily Blunt, Josh Brolin, and Benicio Del Toro, there's definitely a prestige factor to the crime thriller.
Ahead of its premiere the first poster has been released, and it hints at the darkness of the material. Here's the official synopsis:
In Mexico, Sicario means hitman. In the lawless border area stretching between the U.S. and Mexico, an idealistic FBI agent is enlisted by an elite government task force official to aid in the escalating war against drugs. Led by an enigmatic consultant with a questionable past, the team sets out on a clandestine journey forcing Kate to question everything that she believes in order to survive.
Like his prior films Prisoners and Enemy, Villeneuve is toeing the line between good and evil here, and it should make for a fascinating, mature thriller for the fall season. Sicario opens on September 18th.
