Now that Joss Whedon has done what everyone expected him to do, namely take Avengers: Age of Ultron to another gigantic box office for Disney/Marvel, he seems like he's ready for a break. He's been very vocal of late about the problems he faced creatively, including some run-ins with Marvel brass, saying at one point "it got really, really unpleasant." Lately the talk has surrounded his departure from Twitter, which he says was for a need for some quiet, not because of loud, angry, feminists pissed over his depictions of Black Widow...
Whedon: “I just thought, Wait a minute, if I’m going to start writing again, I have to go to the quiet place."
So what if all this stuff going on recently is just a smokescreen for something bigger? What if that quiet he needs is to begin writing on a future Star Wars project? That's the case being made by Latino Review, who have sources saying Whedon is "being courted" by Lucasfilm for some kind of Star Wars project.
Assuming any of this is true, and frankly I find that the more long-winded Latino Review's reports the less credible they tend be, Whedon's recent comments about Marvel have been an elaborate distraction. So what project could it be? With Josh Trank getting the boot from the upcoming Boba Fett spinoff that would seem like a logical spot, and if anybody can make the mysterious Mandalorian cool again it would be Whedon. They even go so far as to guess he could be part of the forever-developing Star Wars live-action TV series which Lucasfilm recently gave an update on. And there's still an open directing slot for Star Wars: Episode IX if he wants it.
All of this is dubious at this stage, but that didn't stop those carnival barkers at Moviepilot from screaming at the top of their lungs that Whedon is confirmed.

My guess is that Whedon will end up actually working on an Indiana Jones reboot. The humor and sense of adventure are exactly what Whedon is good at, and perfect whether it's Harrison Ford or Chris Pratt (or both) in the lead role.
