Jack Black and 'Nacho Libre' Director Jared Hess Reteam for 'Micronations'
The number of movies I've walked out on can be counted on one hand, and on that very short list is Nacho Libre. Pretty hard to do considering my love of pro wrestling, in particular lucha libre, but that film was a comedy wasteland that I needed to escape from. So learning that Jack Black is reteaming with that film's director for a new film doesn't fill me with anticipation.
According to Variety, Black and director Jared Hess (who also directed Napoleon Dynamite) will reteam for Micronations, a comedy with a premise that is undeniably loopy. Written by Robert Snow and Christian Magalhaes (New Girl), the story centers on an oddball who becomes head of defense for the DIY nation of Valoria (population:12), one of these micronations that have sprung up in real life. People have taken to declaring their backyards sovereign nations, running them as their own little countries.
Paramount is backing this one, no doubt expecting Hess and Black to pull the same kind of numbers that Nacho Libre took in. But Hess hasn't found much success since, and we'll have to wait and see if this can be help turn things around.
