Marvel May Have Chosen Asa Butterfield As Their New Spider-Man...Maybe
Has Marvel decided on Ender's Game star Asa Butterfield as their next Spider-Man? If you trust Latino Review, that's exactly what they've done. Butterfield was said to be among the final contenders for the role, with Tom Holland (The Impossible) seen as a frontrunner right alongside him. But now Latino Review says Butterfield has won the role, although other sites are saying it's too soon to confirm anything.
According to THR and backed up by EW, Butterfield is among the finalists to play Peter Parker, with testing to take place this week. Those tests would include Butterfield, Holland, and likely others on the shortlist such as Liam James, Nat Wolff, and Timothee Chalamet. Whoever wins out, we'll have to know soon with Spider-Man expected to appear in next year's Captain America: Civil War. Deadline goes so far to say that Butterfield is in early talks, but agree that he's still among a small group of favorites. So just take all of this as rumor for now.
After 'Civil War', Spidey is due to web swing into his own solo film in 2017, with a handful of directors in the running.
