New Trailer and Clips for 'Me and Earl and the Dying Girl'
You couldn't trudge a block through the snowy streets of Park City without someone raving about Me and Earl and the Dying Girl, and it was for very good reason. The film is a rare concoction of teen romance, high school comedy, Hollywood homage, and cancer drama, the likes of which probably shouldn't work nearly as well as it does. That some are calling it this year's The Fault in Our Stars should tell you a little something about what's in store, but as my review notes, the film consistently "subverts our every expectation".
A new trailer and a pair of clips have been released, and honestly they make my heart melt all over again. Thomas Mann stars as Greg, who has done his best to stay anonymous all throughout high school. That changes when his mom forces him to become friends with the cancer-stricken Rachel, played by Bates Motel's Olivia Cooke. Along with his "co-worker" Earl (RJ Cyler), Greg learns something about true friendship while trying to make Rachel's time as enjoyable as possible.
It's a tremendous, bittersweet film that is sure to end up on a lot of "Best of" lists at the end of the year. Directed by Alfonso Gomez-Rejon with Nick Offerman, Molly Shannon, and Jon Bernthal co-starring, Me and Earl and the Dying Girl opens June 12th.
