Andrea Riseborough in Talks for Gender-Swapped Villain Role in 'The Crow'

After years of struggling to get an adaptation of James O'Barr's The Crow off the ground, then finding it difficult to land a male lead, the film is firmly in place with Jack Huston as its star. Fortunately, the search for a villain isn't proving to be so difficult, as Deadline reports Andrea Riseborough is in talks for the role, which is going to undergo a significant change.

Riseborough, last seen in Best Picture-winning Birdman, is in talks to play the villain Top Dollar. Now, fans of the comics or even the 1994 film will remember that Top Dollar is a guy and Riseborough obviously isn't. The role is undergoing a gender swap, and before any comics purists start whining, this is the friggin' Crow, okay? It's not that big of a deal. Didn't you see Mad Max: Fury Road? Women kick ass, and Riseborough definitely does. She's a terrific actress, so check out her performances in Shadow Dancer, Never Let Me Go, and Oblivion.  I'd wager she might make a better Crow than Huston.

Directed by Corin Hardy, The Crow seems to be gearing up to shoot soon.
