Robert De Niro's 'The Comedian' gets Moving with Mike Newell as Director

Robert De Niro is a funny guy, and the legendary actor has starred in more than his share of comedies. Sadly, that's practically all he's been doing recently, with movies like Grudge Match, Last Vegas, and The Family stinking up his resume. While he's done the occasional crime movie (like The Bag Man) and dramedy (American Hustle and Silver Linings Playbook to name a couple), it will be good to see him go fully dramatic in a film that he has been developing for years.

Deadline reports De Niro will star in The Comedian, a drama directed by Mike Newell (Great Expectations) and penned by Art Linson. In kind of a tragic follow-up to De Niro's The King of Comedy, he'll play a renowned insult comic in the mold of Don Rickles. The many insult gags used in the film were written by Jeffrey Ross, a terrific stand-up comedian known for many of the best jokes in the Comedy Central celebrity roasts.

And this one is gearing up pretty quickly now with filming to begin in November.
