The Griswolds Return in the First 'Vacation' Red Band Trailer

"I've never even heard of the original vacation".

"Doesn't matter, the new vacation will stand on its own".

At least the folks behind the upcoming Vacation reboot know how to have some fun with one of the lingering concerns about the film. Can Ed Helms, Christina Applegate, Chris Hemsworth, Leslie Mann, Charlie Day, and original stars Chevy Chase and Beverly D'Angelo introduce a new generation to the road trip classic? The first red band trailer for Vacation makes a pretty strong case that they can.

Directed by John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein (Horrible Bosses 2), the film sees a grown-up Rusty Griswold deciding to take his family on a road trip to the Wally World amusement park, just as he did as a child. Of course the journey is fraught with mishaps that throw everything into jeopardy. There's a lot more sexual innuendo this time around but the spirit of the first movie seems to be there. They even appear to have stopped at the same hotel where Clark Griswold met Christie Brinkley in the swimming pool. Plus, Hemsworth looks like he may have the showstopper role here as Audrey's chiseled (and apparently well-hung) husband.

Vacation hits the road on July 31st.
