Ever since Josh Trank was fired or quit, depending on who you believe, from the second Star Wars Anthlogy film there hasn't been much public chatter about a replacement. Jon Favreau and Matthew Vaughn's names have come up, but nothing really concrete. Lucasfilm seem focused squarely on the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Gareth Edwards' Anthology film, Rogue One. However a new rumor has surfaced that suggests they've begun interviewing potential candidates, including ex-Wonder Woman director Michelle MacLaren.
The Wrap's Jeff Sneider revealed on the Meet the Movie Press podcast that MacLaren, who recently left the Wonder Woman production due to creative differences, has met with Lucasfilm for the Star Wars Anthology gig. Then again there doesn't seem to be a lot of meat behind this story, other than that no formal negotiations with any directors has taken place. So who's to say what this meeting was all about?
The Emmy-winning MacLaren was the popular choice to direct Wonder Woman and fans were excited when she won that job. However they were just as disappointed when she left, and since then her name hasn't come up too often. There has been some rumbling she could be up to direct Captain Marvel, but otherwise she hasn't been attached to anything new.
The second Star Wars Anthology film is expected to arrive in 2018 and may center on an early encounter between Boba Fett and Han Solo.
