Haven't we seen this story before? Y'know, the one where Matt Damon is a guy trapped alone in outer space? Yeah, we have, but guaranteed Ridley Scott's The Martian is nothing like Interstellar. First off, Andy Weir's novel is a survival story first and foremost, with Damon's astronaut Mark Watney trying to survive being stranded on Mars. That botany degree will be coming in very handy. And while he's a little bit eccentric, he's certainly not Looney Tunes like Damon's Interstellar character.
A clever new promo introduces us to Watney and the entire crew of the Hermes while they are on their way to Mars. Watney serves as our guide, with Michael Pena as pilot Rick Martinez, Jessica Chastain as commander Melissa Lewis, Sebastian Stan as team medic Chris Beck, Kate Mara as computer expert Beth Johanssen, and Aksel Hennie as Alex Vogel. This is a profane but light-hearted look at the crew before things all turn to crap.
Meanwhile, producer Simon Kinberg has revealed on Twitter a brilliant poster diagramming mission to save Watney while also showing off the film's incredible supporting cast that includes Chiwetel Ejiofor, Kristen Wiig, Mackenzie Davis, Sean Bean, Donald Glover, and Jeff Daniels. Very cool, and as someone who is right smack in the middle of reading the book all of this gets me very excited for the film which opens on November 20th.
