When Meryl Streep sings, people listen. Just look at the box office for Mamma Mia! and Into the Woods for evidence of that. This summer she'll put her musical talents to use once again in the family dramedy Ricki and the Flash, and there's a brand new trailer for it.
Directed by Jonathan Demme and co-starring Mamie Gummer, Kevin Kline, Sebastian Stan, Rick Springfield, Ben Platt, and Audra McDonald, the film isn't exactly a musical, but it has Streep playing a hard-partying rocker forced to reconnect with her estranged family when a crisis strikes. And naturally, they're a little upset that she put her career ahead of their well-being. So it doesn't seem as if there will be much of Streep on the microphone, but she wields that guitar like a pro.
Ricki and the Flash opens August 7th.
