Sometimes red band trailers are used to make tame movies seem edgy. That's definitely not the case for The Overnight, Patrick Brice's sex-infused comedy that debuted at Sundance earlier this year and got a lot of people hot and bothered. The film stars Taylor Schilling of Orange is the New Black, Adam Scott, Jason Schwarztman, and Judith Godrèche, and basically it's about one wild night between two married couples that goes much further than any of them expected. Here's the official synopsis:
Alex, Emily, and their son, RJ, have recently moved to Los Angeles’ Eastside from Seattle. Feeling lost in a new city, they are desperate to find their first new friends. After a chance meeting with Kurt at the neighborhood park, they gladly agree to join family pizza night at the home. But as it gets later and the kids go to bed, the family “playdate” becomes increasingly more revealing and bizarre as the couples begin to open up.
This trailer does a good job of getting across the level of raunch without giving away the nastiest bits. Having just watched this a couple of days ago, I can say that the humor isn't going to be for everybody, but those who check it out will find a very funny look at two couples trying anything to maintain that romantic spark. The Overnight opens June 19th.
