Emma Watson Represses Dark Memories in New Trailer for 'Regression'
Six years have passed since we've seen a feature film from Oscar-winning Spanish director Alejandro Amenabar. He had a ton of early success leading Nicole Kidman in 2001's The Others, then in 2004 The Sea Inside earned the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language film. But his most recent film, Agora, was largely ignored and we haven't heard much from him since. Now he's back with the psychological thriller, Regression, and the new trailer puts stars Emma Watson and Ethan Hawke front and center.
Watson, taking another bold step away from her comfort zone, plays a young whose dark memories of a terrible crime could lead to something far worse. Here's the official synopsis:
Minnesota, 1990. Detective Bruce Kenner (Ethan Hawke) investigates the case of young Angela (Emma Watson), who accuses her father, John Gray (David Dencik), of an unspeakable crime. When John unexpectedly and without recollection admits guilt, renowned psychologist Dr. Raines (David Thewlis) is brought in to help him relive his memories and what they discover unmasks a horrifying nationwide mystery.
Amenabar has proven with The Others his skill with exactly this kind of haunting atmosphere, and it looks like Watson and Hawke should provide some strong work, as well. Co-starring Devon Bostick, Dale Dickey, David Dencik, and David Thewlis, Regression opens August 28th.
