'Bad Boys 3' May Finally Happen with Joe Carnahan Directing

Bad Boys 3 is a film many have been wanting to see happen for a long time. Not the least of which is Martin Lawrence, who seems to bring it up at least once a year. For all the chatter there's been very little actual movement and certainly no green light by Sony Pictures, but that could all be just a formality now. According to Deadline, Sony is ready to tap Joe Carnahan to write and possibly direct a Bad Boys sequel.

The report says Carnahan is in early talks to pen the screenplay, taking over from David Guggenheim (Safe House) who wrote the most recent draft. Carnahan could come aboard to direct the movie, which Sony hopes to be ready in time for it to be Will Smith's next film after he's done with Suicide Squad. So what about Lawrence? Presumably he'd be back as well because who wants Bad Boys without the tag team of Smith and Lawrence? Well, some of us don't want this movie at all but those who do would want Lawrence there.

Carnahan most recently directed the action-comedy Stretch, but is best known for action flicks like Smokin' Aces, The Grey, and The A-Team. So he'd be a solid choice, at least from a genre standpoint, to take over from Michael Bay who helmed the first two blockbuster films.
