Matt Damon Tries to Survive Mars in First Trailer for Ridley Scott's 'The Martian'
Space....the final frontier. In Andy Weir's novel, The Martian, which has been adapted into a big-time feature film by Ridley Scott, man has sped forward in exploring that final frontier. There have already been multiple expeditions on Mars, and while astronaut Mark Watney (Matt Damon) may not have been the first person to step on the big red planet, he may be the first to die on it. After yesterday's intro video and cool infographic-style poster, the first official trailer for the film, plus a batch of photos, have been released.
Damon takes center stage as Watney, a botanist on the Hermes mission to Mars who is stranded when a violent storm forced the crew to abandon the planet. If Watney has any hope of surviving he'll need to use all of his skills and invent some new ones in the process, or as he says in the trailer, he'll need to "science the sh*t out of this". Weir's book is highly technical but fun, largely due to Watney's offbeat persona, and Damon seems to have that nailed. The cast Scott has put together is remarkable with Jessica Chastain (Damon's Interstellar co-star), Kate Mara, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Kristen Wiig, Sebastian Stan, Aksel Hennie, Jeff Daniels, Mackenzie Davis, Donald Glover, and Sean Bean.
The Martian touches down on November 25th.
