How would you like to have Nicolas Cage as your congressman? Given the..."mismanagement" of his own personal finances and less than choosy attitude when picking movies, there's a good chance he may help run your town into the ground. In the new film The Runner, the people of New Orleans are faced with having Cage as their representative, and things don't turn out so well.
Directed by Austin Stark, this "ripped from the headline" drama stars Cage as a Louisiana congressman caught up in a sex scandal in the aftermath of the 2010 BP oil spill. Meanwhile his wife (Connie Nielsen) is a schemer with ambitions of her own, his dysfunctional lifestyle is on the verge of destroying his career, and "Big Oil" is pushing for him to make the oil spill headlines go away.
Any one of these issues could probably fill an entire movie, but all of them at once sounds like a mess. Also starring Bryan Batt, Peter Fonda, Wendell Pierce, and Sarah Paulson, The Runner opens August 7th.
