David Oyelowo takes Kate Mara Hostage in First Trailer for 'Captive'

Put David Oyelowo (Selma), Kate Mara (House of Cards), and Michael K. Williams (The Wire) together in anything and good things are bound to happen. But put them in a tense, seat-of-your-pants thriller based on a true story and there's the making of something special. Hopefully that turns out to be the case for Captive, which has just debuted its first trailer.

Directed by 80-year-old journeyman director Jerry Jameson (he directed the incredibly awful disaster flick Airport '77), the film stars Mara as a single mother struggling to beat a drug addiction, who is kidnapped and taken hostage by an escaped convict (Oyelowo) who murdered the judge in charge of his case. While this looks like a fairly standard meat and potatoes thriller, there are some interesting aspects to consider. Not only does it feature a score by Radiohead's Jonny Greenwood, but Oyelowo's wife Jessica also has a role.

That this is being presented by the Christian Broadcasting Network and the poster highlights words such as "Faith" and "Redemption" should offer a clue what this is really all about. But still, this looks very promising. Captive hits theaters on September 18th.
