Boston Marathon Bombing Drama 'Stronger' Lands David Gordon Green for Director
Getting a handle on what David Gordon Green will do next is never easy. He began as the director of sobering indie dramas, then made a somewhat awkward transition to crass R-rated studio comedies, but lately he's been back in early form with movies like Joe and Manglehorn. His next film is the political dramedy Our Brand is Crisis, which some are already pegging as an Oscars hopeful, and now Green has added what could be another awards contender to his schedule.
THR reports that Green will direct Stronger, a film based on the memoir by Jeff Bauman, a victim of the Boston Marathon bombings who lost both of his legs in the attack. The story follows his recovery, recuperation, and part to play in the ensuing manhunt for Dzhokhar Tsarnaev and Tamerlan Tsarnaev. The screenplay will be co-written by playwright John Pollono and Scott Silver (8 Mile), but as of now no casting has been announced.
Multiple films on the Boston Marathon are on the way, but only Stronger has found a director. Mark Wahlberg is attached to Patriot's Day, while the Casey Affleck-led Boston Strong recently lost director Daniel Espinosa.
