First Look at Pixar Short Film 'Sanjay's Super Team' Debuting Ahead of 'The Good Dinosaur'

Pixar is set to reveal a superhero film like nothing you've seen before, and certainly won't from the folks at Marvel and DC. Playing ahead of The Good Dinosaur will be the animated short film, Sanjay's Super Team, a film that combines American superheroes with Hindu legend.

USA Today has the first look at the short from longtime Pixar animator Sanjay Patel, making his directorial debut. Patel began his career working on The Simpsons but has been with Pixar since their second feature, A Bug's Life. Composed by Mychael Danna (Life of Pi) and featuring no dialogue like many of the studio's short films, Sanjay's Super Team is partially based on the filmmaker's California upbringing as a child who had to learn to meld American culture with his family's Indian traditions. In the film, Sanjay eventually meets three Hindu deities: the monkey-like Hanuman, the goddess of power and protection Durga, and the blue-skinned Vishnu, who represents preservation.

Patel and producer Nicole Paradis Grindle will be showing the film off at Comic-Con this week during a panel presentation on Thursday.

Just one look at the images show a completely different style of animation than Pixar is accustomed to, with Grindle adding that Patel's style "very clearly comes from a different cultural place than all the other stories we've told before. … And for kids who come from these backgrounds to see themselves on screen, it's exciting for us."

Look for Sanjay's Super Team to debut ahead of The Good Dinosaur on November 25th.
