New Look at Batman's Soldier Costume from 'Batman v Superman'; 'The Killing Joke' to get Animated Feaure

One of the more intriguing elements of the recent Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice trailer showed Batman in a very different uniform, one that I referred to as "Golden Age", but upon second look is more like a soldier disguise. Now the film's set photographer has revealed a new photo that shows Ben Affleck in that costume, and if it looks a little familiar there may be another reason for it.

Those who have read the Elseworlds comic Gotham by Gaslight may recognize the costume as being very similar to the one Batman wore in it. Is this just a clever homage from Zack Snyder, a nice easter egg for Bat-fans to geek out over? Or is there another reason why he'd wear this particular suit? We won't know the answers until Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice opens on March 25th 2016.

That's not all of the Batman news for today, though, as Alan Moore's highly influential story Batman: The Killing Joke is getting an animated feature adaptation. First published in 1988, it provides a somewhat sympathetic origin for the Joker as a failed stand-up comedian and family man who is disfigured after a run-in with Batman. Going insane, he becomes the master criminal we all know him to be, leading up to his shooting and paralyzing Batgirl aka Barbara Gordon.

The film will be part of WB's animated slate in 2016 along with Batman: Bad Blood and Justice League vs. Titans, all of which will go staight to DVD.
