Marvel Returns to Mads Mikkelsen for Villain Role in 'Doctor Strange'

While he may seem like an odd fit for the Marvel universe, Mads Mikkelsen has been mentioned for roles a couple of times already. He had actually agreed to play the villain Malekith in Thor: The Dark World, until his Hannibal commitments forced him out of it. Then last year he was rumored to be up for a role in Doctor Strange, but nothing ever seemed to come out of those reports until now as his name has once again emerged as a possibility.

According to Variety, Mikkelsen is in early talks to play a villainous role in Doctor Strange. Details on who the character may be are still being kept hidden, but with Chiwetel Ejiofor supposedly playing Baron Mordo that leaves only a few good options. Perhaps Dormammu?  Or perhaps it's the other way around? Mikkelsen would join star Benedict Cumberbatch, Tilda Swinton as the Ancient One, and Rachel McAdams is eyeing a role, as well. Is this Marvel's strongest cast yet?

Directed by Scott Derrickson, Doctor Strange opens November 4th 2016.
